It is an analogue of cocaine and binds  dopamine and serotonin transporters. Neurodegenerative disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease, are characterized by degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra, with loss of their nerve terminals in the basal ganglia structure, especially in the striatum.</p>
